Let Us Go In and Possess the Land

Recently a student of Christian Science listened to an informal discussion on world affairs. One of the speakers, a lawyer, was quite convincing in his arguments that religion should be kept out of politics, and forcefully expounded his views. Such outspoken views serve to awaken the Christian Scientist to be more diligent in his application of truth. He knows that while it is desirable to separate religion, considered in its varying forms of creed and dogma, from politics, one cannot divorce from government true religion, expressed in the qualities of the Christ-mind—justice, honesty, intelligence, integrity, and trust in God, divine Principle—and have a good or stable state.

There have been many proofs that victories and successes in the recent world conflict were possible because of the guiding hand of God. More than ever it will be necessary for us all to turn to God, perfect Mind, for divine guidance in the establishment of enduring peace and lasting security in the world. No argument of error can rule God and His Christ out of government. His spiritual law constitutes true government; and without God, divine Principle, we fail. Mary Baker Eddy says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (pp. 82,83), "In a world of sin and sensuality hastening to a greater development of power, it is wise earnestly to consider whether it is the human mind or the divine Mind which is influencing one." Unless individuals and nations are willing to learn how to be governed by the divine Mind, or God, they will not be governed aright. Mortal mind would rule God and His Christ out of government.

In the Bible are related many instances where the children of Israel were counseled by God to "go in and possess the land." In Deuteronomy 6:18 we read, "And thou shalt do that which is right and good in the sight of the Lord: that it may be well with thee, and that thou mayest go in and possess the good land which the Lord sware unto thy fathers."
