Signs of the Times

Christmas

Journal-Herald Dayton, Ohio

"Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judæa in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him. ... And, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy."

The tale of the Wisemen imparts wise counseling. There are few who do not feel an urge toward something better; few who do not lift their thoughts occasionally toward a permanence which cannot be disturbed or shaken by the incidents of earth. As this strange stir comes to man, telling him that he is not destined to be extinguished in a hopeless, endless night but is the heir of immortality, man is beholding the light of the star. And if this star be followed, the truth is revealed to him.
