Testifying to the blessings received through the study of Christian Science has long appeared a necessary, though spontaneous, activity, and so I now add written testimony to verbal ones I have given. Our Father-Mother God, whom we know as divine Mind, is becoming nearer and dearer to me. For this, and for many blessings which have accompanied the dawn of spiritual understanding, I give thanks.

Before the year 1914, I occasionally looked into the window of a Christian Science Reading Room, but had never felt attracted to inquire into the teachings of this Science. After three years in the Army, half of the time on active service abroad, I returned home deeply depressed, intensely dissatisfied with civilization, and ready to run away from everything I knew. In this frame of mind I was drawn to enter that Reading Room and ask for something to read. The loving greeting still remains in my thought, as does the thrill of joy when, having been loaned the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, I opened the book in the street and immediately recognized the truth.

Since that day in 1919, many strange things have happened to me which would have appeared unbelievable if prophesied; yet, the understanding which Christian Science brings, shows me that God is directing, and in this assurance lie comfort, hope, and support.
