Letters to the Press from Christian Science Committees on Publication
Denville Herald
Charles M. Carr, Committee on Publication for New Jersey Denville Herald
An editorial appearing in a recent issue of your newspaper speaks of a case in which the Christian Science parents of a child object to compulsory vaccination as a prerequisite to attendance at public school. You have thoughtfully indicated that a local board of education, by holding to its rule requiring vaccination for all school children, will likely take away a precious religious right of some individuals in the endeavor to act in the interest of public health.
Let it be said here that religious freedom and public health may both be preserved when the question of vaccination is approached in the spirit of mutual understanding and good will.
