I can find no better way to start this testimony than to quote, in part, the first three verses of the fortieth Psalm: "I waited patiently for the Lord; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry. He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings. And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God." This has been my own experience, and today I have nothing but praise in my heart for God and Christian Science.

Early in life I had become addicted to the use of alcohol and tobacco. I smoked from ten to twelve cigars a day, and consumed much liquor. This went along for over twenty years, until the hour of chastening came and, through heartaches and trouble, I was turned to divine Love. In my extremity I prayed the only prayer I knew, the Lord's Prayer, and I made a covenant with myself that if I arose from this pit I would devote my time to working in God's vineyard.

At this moment of spiritual yearning, Christian Science was presented to me and I called on a practitioner for help. In the first treatment I was instantaneously healed of smoking and also of chronic bowel trouble, from which I had suffered for many years. Later on I was completely healed of all desire for alcohol, and this also has been a permanent healing. I am grateful, too, for the protecting power of Christian Science.
