Church Dedications

Note: Christian Science churches are dedicated only when free from debt.

Salina, Kansas (First Church). First Church of Christ, Scientist, Salina, was dedicated on Sunday, April 15, at regular morning and evening services, to which the public was invited.

The church has an interesting history. Through the healing of an early resident of Salina, who had returned to make her home here, interest in Christian Science was aroused, and for several years a small group held Sunday services in private homes. In the year 1901 a society was formed, holding services in the G.A.R. Hall. Soon after that, the second floor of the newly completed Salina Journal Building was rented. The society then organized First Church of Christ, Scientist, Salina.

The Journal Building was used until the summer of 1909, when the former German Methodist Church at Eighth and Mulberry Street was purchased. After the church moved into its new home a Sunday school was organized. A Reading Room was also opened in the church. Later the Reading Room was moved to a downtown location.
