The Scientific Handling of Aggression
Once only in all her published writings has the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, employed the word "aggression"; and in that single reference to the term she declares unequivocally that it must be renounced. On page 451 of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," she writes: "Christian Scientists must live under the constant pressure of the apostolic command to come out from the material world and be separate. They must renounce aggression, oppression and the pride of power. Christianity, with the crown of Love upon her brow, must be their queen of life."
No half measures here, no compromise, for to renounce anything is utterly to reject it, to forsake it, thus depriving it of the only foothold it has ever had—credence in human consciousness. To the individual who has freely and firmly renounced "aggression, oppression and the pride of power," these errors cease to be, and Love does indeed crown Christianity as his "queen of life."
The great fact shines forth in Christian Science that divine Love is infinite, All. From Love emanates only that which is altogether lovely, loving, and lovable. Nothing aggressive or baneful has its origin in this one changeless, perfect cause. All creation shows forth the perfection of being.
