Sunday School Observations
Teaching in the Christian Science Sunday School can be one of the most inspirational experiences. But like everything else that is worth while, it involves prayerful work. This work, which should be done before the Sunday school hour and during the hour, consists of knowing the truth and of being alert to some of the common erroneous beliefs concerning teaching.
One important point to remember is that there is only one Mind, and that ideas are not transmitted from one mind to another but unfold in the consciousness of both the child and the teacher. There is only one real teacher, and that is God. The work of the Sunday school teacher is to pray that she may be a clear transparency for the truth that comes from God.
The belief sometimes presents itself that there may be discipline problems to be handled. The writer has been a primary school teacher, a teacher in an orthodox Sunday school, and a teacher in the Christian Science Sunday School. It has been her experience that there is no such thing as a discipline problem when the child is really interested. Children naturally love good. The simple truths based on the Bible and taught in the Sunday school are very close and understandable to the little child, because he does not have to unlearn so many false theories.
