The City Foursquare

A Soldier about to embark for overseas service was reported to have written his family that he was crawling into the ninety-first Psalm for the duration. What better place of protection could anyone seek than the shelter of His mighty wing, so beautifully described by David in his psalms of gratitude and trust? How many of us have our own private mental foxholes where we run when disaster threatens! But unless these fortresses of thought are dug out of the true substance of Spirit, we attain but chance security.

The Bible furnishes many just such infallible retreats. Yet, all the promises in Scripture are of little use if we do not spiritually comprehend them. Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, has given mankind "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." Here indeed is the spiritual interpretation of the inspired Word of the Scriptures.

The so-called miracles performed by Moses and the prophets of the Old Testament become natural and reasonable events in the light thrown on them by divine Science. The kingdom of heaven, about which the Nazarene spoke so often to his listeners, is found by Christian Scientists to be within one's own consciousness. In working out his own salvation, the individual gradually learns to employ what the Apostle Paul calls "things which are not seen," the testimony of spiritual sense. Things seen and felt by the five physical senses are eventually recognized as unrealities.
