"Is not this the Christ?"

Humanity yearns for the light of that Christly love and power which shone through every thought and deed of the gentle but decisive Jesus of Nazareth. Many people are turning as never before to a search for God. They feel a deep need for comfort, strength, and love to uphold them in these strange and trying days. And yet the Comforter promised by Jesus has been ever at hand, and has been made knowable by Mary Baker Eddy in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," that all can share in its light and solace.

One definition of the Christ is (Science and Health, p. 332), "Christ is the true idea voicing good, the divine message from God to men speaking to the human consciousness." Has there ever been a time when this divine message from God to men has been absent? Not unless there was a time when there was no God. True, the self-satisfied, the sensualist, the supercilious philosopher and intellectual may be so busy listening to earthly voices that the divine message goes unheeded. But in moments of agony, of questioning, of need, of desire for good or to know more of God, the message is heard, and it always brings comfort and healing.

What is this message? It is that God is the Father and Mother of man, the perfect and loving creator of a perfect universe; that man is wholly spiritual, and that the joyous activity of good is ever unfolding to him.
