Christian Science has helped me...
Christian Science has helped me greatly in understanding the promises contained in the Bible. In the thirty-fourth Psalm we find these words: "O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him." I have had ample proof of the truth of this counsel, and it is with the desire to help others that I offer the following testimony.
While crossing the Atlantic in an oil tanker, part of a large convoy, we were attacked late one afternoon by a German battleship. Our sole escort was an auxiliary cruiser, the "Jervis Bay," which turned to meet the attacker. She was no match for such a powerful opponent, and she was hit repeatedly until incapable of further action. The enemy then proceeded to attack the convoy and was soon making havoc amongst the unescorted ships.
Being an earnest student of Christian Science, I turned to God in prayer. The words of the ninety-first Psalm came to my mind, 'He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty," and then many more statements from the Bible and "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, came to me. They were comforting, but the chaos round about seemed to make it difficult for me to concentrate. The men near me voiced their expectation that our vessel would be the next to be fired on and the material picture certainly looked bad. On our left the gallant escort ship was burning herself out; on our right was a freighter afire from stem to stern and sinking. In between them but farther off was the enemy, firing away without opposition.
