An Armored Soldier

The megaphone was summoning flight passengers. Military men as well as civilians were about to take wing. Into the hand of one of these officers was placed an unobtrusive letter from a dear one. It was addressed, "Soldier of God." This mother was relinquishing all sense of prideful possession. With grateful heart she was letting her son go. With genuine smiles and good cheer she was sending him forth on overseas duty free and unhampered. In that letter there was quoted from the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (Pref., p vii). this profound message by our dear Leader. Mary Baker Eddy: "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings."

Many years before, this illuminating promise had so revolutionized this mother's thoughts that she had ceased leaning upon material remedies for health, and found her well-being in steadfast reliance on her Maker. Prior to that time she had leaned upon her own understanding for decisions, instead of turning to divine Mind for counsel and direction. She had trusted human faith for preservation, instead of spiritual understanding. She had depended upon human personality for supply, instead of heeding the message in Christ Jesus' parable of the prodigal, in which the father says, "All that I have is thine." With her unconditional surrender of human will to the divine, she learned to lean, not apathetically but actively, on God, divine Principle; then she experienced a great influx of beneficence.

Now, today, this mother was again leaning unreservedly, expectantly, and resolutely on that same sustaining Principle, Love, for assurance. Her letter reminded this "soldier of God" that he too would find that "to-day is big with blessings"—today and every day —as he accepted and utilized this pillar of unswerving might. What a rich return for acknowledgment, faith, confidence, and full reliance! What instantaneous results are obtainable with that promise—today—no waiting, no indefinite future; but now!
