The purpose of this testimony...
The purpose of this testimony is to express my gratitude to God for growth in Christian Science and for the protection that I experienced during thirteen and a half months overseas. I also desire to share with others the heartening knowledge that divine Love never asks us to do more than we are capable of doing.
In the United States, we know when some problem arises that assistance from a Christian Science practitioner is no farther away than the nearest telephone. Because this is so, I never felt entirely on my own until I left these shores in a giant convoy. So far as I knew, there were no other Christian Scientists either in the convoy or on the distant shore. The trip over and the ensuing assault were made much easier for me by the knowledge that there are no danger zones for God's man, whose being is always intact in Mind.
Generally speaking, we are not sufficiently alert in this country to the claims of evil that seem to have attached themselves to many foreign lands. I found myself almost immediately attacked by dysentery, indigestion, and other ailments resulting from fatigue, and changes in diet and water. In overcoming these ills I read at great length from the Bible and from "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. Finally I saw that the condition presented to me by human sense was entirely false, and that if I wished to get a correct picture I had to recognize my true nature as revealed in the textbooks. Mrs. Eddy says of man on page 475 of Science and Health, "He is the compound idea of God, including all right ideas." With the understanding that the right ideas of health, harmony, joy, peace, happiness, strength, and courage were mine by reflection, I was healed, and I had no further difficulty of this kind all the time I was overseas.
