On page vii of the Preface to "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, writes, "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings." This I know to be true, for it has been my joyous privilege to lean on Christian Science for help since early childhood. The privilege of attending the Christian Science Sunday School has always been one of my most cherished gifts. It was there that I first learned my true relationship with my Father-Mother God. Through earnest desire to prove the works of our Master, Christ Jesus, I have pressed on and fought many battles with error, vanquishing lack, fear, discouragement, hatred, jealousy, and many other false characteristics.
During early school years, it was difficult for me to attain a place in my class where my marks were above the average. This made me unhappy and I disliked school. After I had attended the Christian Science Sunday School for a short time, my teacher helped me to see that I was equipped to handle all problems which were given to me, pointing out that all that I knew came from God, good, and that by reflection I was able to understand, perceive, and acknowledge the law of divine Principle. From then on I gained rapidly, and at the end of each term my scholastic average was the highest in each class. This progress I owe entirely to Christian Science.
I have had many instantaneous healings, although some conditions have not yielded so readily. One noon upon getting off a trolley car, I was knocked down by an automobile. For the first few moments I was unconscious. Then I heard someone say, "Call an ambulance." Instantly the words from one of our hymns in the Christian Science Hymnal (No 53) came to me,
Everlasting arms of Love
Are beneath, around, above;
God it is who bears us on,
His the arm we lean upon.
I became conscious of my where abouts and informed the spectators that I was all right. Getting up, I walked to my home, which was a distance of two blocks. While I experienced a great sense of pain I did not mention it to my mother, for I knew that the demonstration would be brought about more quickly if I avoided talking about the condition.
I returned to the office that afternoon, without referring to what had occurred, and continued to work in Christian Science. That evening I went to the home of a Christian Science practitioner and stated the circumstances to her. We started to go over the Lesson-Sermon for that week, and before we finished reading the first section I knew I had received my healing. All pain and stiffness had left me, and I was free.
To say I am grateful to God for the teachings of Christian Science is putting it mildly. I love this Science because it is applicable in business, social activities, home life, and in daily contacts with one's brother man. For the joyous privilege of membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church, and for class instruction, I am ever grateful.— (Miss) Elsa D. Franck, West Englewood, New Jersey.
