I should like to express my...
I should like to express my great gratitude for all that Christian Science has done for me and mine. In 1929 Christian Science was brought into our home by a dear sister, who was on a visit from America. She had received many healings through Christian Science and expressed such joy and gratitude that we felt drawn to inquire into this healing truth. Soon we purchased a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and began the study of the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly. On Sunday we read the Lesson together, since the nearest church was twenty miles away.
Soon after this our son, who suffered very much from toothache, had an attack which lasted three days and nights, during which time he could not sleep. He was so ill that his father decided to call a doctor. The boy did not want this, because he was interested in Christian Science, so we asked if we might try Science. This his father agreed to, but said that if there were no improvement when he came home in the evening he would go for the doctor. I quickly telephoned a practitioner, and shall never forget her comforting assurance that "the word of God is quick, and powerful." In about fifteen minutes the boy was asleep, and the healing was instantaneous. Later on, this boy was healed of rheumatic fever with the help of the same practitioner, to whom I shall always feel grateful for the love and patience which she expressed.
I had suffered for many years from constipation, constant colds, hay fever, nasal catarrh, and asthma. All these, with the exception of the last, disappeared very quickly without any specific help. The asthma took much longer, however, although the attacks grew less and less severe and I often was free for months at a time. There were also false traits of character to be overcome, such as self-will, self-justification, resentment, and much fear.
