The Bountiful Lesson-Sermon

It may be said of Christian Scientists generally that they attend church quite regularly. The faithful student reads his Lesson-Sermon daily. Then he hears it read in church, on Sunday.

In her Church Manual, Mary Baker Eddy gives the order of service for all Christian Science churches and societies in every land. The simplicity and the orderly and scientific plan of this service are an inspiration to all seekers of Truth. We accept it as the best religious service since the master Christian, Christ Jesus, taught on the hillsides in Galilee. We accept it with humility and with gratitude to our Leader. We are content. The question is. Are we satisfied just to be contented with it?

For example, do we attend church service as a duty or requisite to membership, or to gain, retain, and give of our substance of eternal good? Each Christian Science service brings a healing message. Listening attentively to it, pondering well its intent and purpose, we should find in the inspired Lesson-Sermon not only spiritual uplifting but a guide to eternal life.
