In Every Direction of Thought
Have you ever stopped to note the many different directions your thought takes? Try it. You will discover that your thought may go out in a multitude of directions. Even in one moment your thought may go halfway around the earth to distant scenes and persons, then perhaps to the moon or a planet, and possibly return to contemplate such mundane matters as the weather, or your next income tax payment! All of which shows how versatile and unconfined thought is. The divergent directions it takes are legion.
Mortals find their thoughts reaching out to their likes and dislikes. Mr. A's thoughts may go out like a rapier, sharp with criticism, toward Mr. B, a business competitor. A moment later his thought may reach out with love and appreciation to members of the armed forces serving their country with courage and distinction.
The illogical mixture in mortals of good and bad thinking results from their belief that there can coexist both a good mind and a bad mind. By believing these opposites are equally real, men have discarded their defense against the evil mind and its thoughts. Christian Science is restoring this defense by showing us that by understanding that only the one positive, good Mind is real and present, each individual can cast out the thoughts of the mortal, material mind as fictitious and untrue.
