Deep Desire

Dear Lord, of all the gifts Thy treasury holds,
I seek that rarest boon, above all price,
The one I long for most of all,
The understanding heart:
To know the need, unvoiced, untold;
To give to hungry hearts the food
Of hope, love, and compassion;
To reach beyond and free those bound by pride,
Yet bruised and broken;
With tender love, tact, and devotion
To break the bread of Truth,
And show to them the tender care
Of Father-Mother God,
Which satisfies all longings
And brings to them true consolation.
