There is too much stress laid upon the arduous nature of the narrow path "which leadeth unto life." Mankind is prone to speak of it as a dreary path, one where there is no delight. But this is wrong. It is a direct way out from wrong, out from that which tempts and deceives, out from want and terror.
It leads away from that collective evil which Jesus of Nazareth termed "a murderer from the beginning." It is an affirmative way. Those who follow it are freed from the negation of mortality. Even in the valley and shadow of death they know the rod and the staff of the comforting shepherd.
