"Let the redeemed of the Lord...
"Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy." Redemption from the beliefs of the carnal mind necessarily brings with it surcease from sorrow, woe, disability, and lack. I have experienced these blessings times innumerable, and hereby avail myself of the privilege of adding my voice to the constant hymn of praise and gratitude that goes up for the discovery of Christian Science and for its Discoverer and Founder, Mary Baker Eddy.
The healing of an acute case of stomach disorder brought with it the recognition that food can neither contribute to health nor destroy it, since health is a quality of divine Mind, not to be found in the body. The disorder, which had been brought about by obedience to the carnal mind and its pretensions to law, was seen as mental, not physical. My healing included a transformation of temperament—the greater part of which was temper—into temperate, ordered thinking. It occurred some sixteen years ago, after prominent physicians had acknowledged their inability to cope with the condition, and when hospitalization, diet, and sanitarium treatment had signally failed to do so. The healing has been permanent. It was brought about solely through the study of our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by our revered Leader. Mrs. Eddy.
The healing of a severe heart condition, with its attendant suggestions of instant death, contributed much to the realization that heart never gave life and therefore could not take it away. In this instance I cabled to a practitioner some two thousand miles distant, and the help came immediately. I was referred to the question on page 50 of "Miscellaneous Writings" by Mrs. Eddy, "Do you believe in change of heart?" and the answer which follows. Therein I read, "The human affections need to be changed from self to benevolence and love for God and man." I faced this issue squarely, as I had been taught to do in my study of Christian Science, and saw that I should have to cast out of consciousness a hatred that had smoldered there for over five years. That I was successful in doing so was evidenced not only by the quick healing of heart trouble, but also by the fact that the one whom I had been hating ardently met me with outstretched arms upon my return home, and has since then become a very dear friend, who has turned to me for Christian Science help when in distress.
