I want to tell about all the good...

I want to tell about all the good that has come to me through Christian Science and the Christian Science Wartime Ministers' work in army camps.

The experience which stands out most vividly occurred on a Saturday afternoon while I was going from camp into Tallahassee, Florida. We were on an army convoy, traveling about thirty-five miles an hour over a long bridge that crossed a river and swamp. About halfway over I noticed a truck coming toward us. The driver was apparently intoxicated. I could see the possible danger, and immediately cleared my thought of all that did not pertain to God and His protection. We hit the truck, crashed the rail of the bridge, and hurtled into the water ten feet below. I felt that my safety depended on how much faith I had in God's loving care. Obviously, no other protection was possible. As we went over the side of the bridge I found it surprisingly easy not to be afraid, because of my knowledge of Christian Science. It was my job to know at that time that man is the image of God, and cannot be separated from Him by any so-called material force. I know my faith was rewarded, because we hit the water with the truck upright, and no one was hurt. The water was shallow enough at the place that we hit so that we did not get wet. Fifteen minutes later I was on my way to town again.

After a few months I moved to Camp Pickett, Virginia. There I started to have trouble with one of my feet. My instep hurt so much that I did not even like to cross the street. I feared it was a fallen arch. I did the best metaphysical work I knew how to do, but found it necessary to ask our Wartime Minister for treatment. I was to make a twenty-five-mile hike the following night. The work was taken up and the healing was accomplished overnight. I made the hike easily and felt fine the next day.
