I am grateful for Christian Science...

I am grateful for Christian Science and for what it is teaching me about my true selfhood, as an idea of God.

The letter of Christian Science I seemed to grasp quickly, but the spiritual import of this Science came slowly. Mary Baker Eddy, Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, tells us in Science and Health (p. 451). "Students of Christian Science, who start with its letter and think to succeed without the spirit, will either make shipwreck of their faith or be turned sadly awry." I went through this experience because I tried to hold on to the material sense of things while trying to live the spiritual.

Then came a testing time. We were transferred to another section of the United States, among strangers and away from family and friends. My husband's position kept him away from home a great deal of the time. I allowed myself to become mesmerized into a state of loneliness and fear, which impaired my health. I believed that to go back home would solve my problem.
