Church Dedications

Note: Christian Science churches are dedicated only when free from debt.

Harrow Observer

At the morning and evening services held on Sunday, June 4, 1944, First Church of Christ, Scientist, Elm Park Road, was dedicated.

In 1916 some students of Christian Science who were living at Hatch End decided to meet together in the homes of two of the families to read the Lesson-Sermon from the Christian Science Quarterly, and to conduct a Sunday school service for their children, each house being used on alternate Sundays.

In 1920 public services were held in the Odd Fellows Hall, Wax-well Lane. When this hall was outgrown a move was made to the Parish Hall in 1921, though the Sunday school remained at the Odd Fellows Hall, where in 1924 a Christian Science Reading Room was opened. Later, the Sunday school was moved to St. Mildred's Avenue Road, where it remained until 1937.
