God's Treasure Is Yours

If someone said to you, "I know where there is hidden treasure which can easily be unearthed," would you not, having confirmed the facts, go to great lengths to get that treasure, if you knew that when you found it, it would be rightfully yours? And why would you do this? Because it would enable you to have many things you had always wanted, comfort, security, pleasure, for years to come, until the supply of what had been found ran out.

There is a treasure easy to unearth, richer in substance than any ever buried by pirates of old, and promising a supply of good which will grow in usefulness and bring greater and greater peace, joy, and "pleasures for evermore." This treasure is not to be sought in some far-off place, nor is it to be dug up in one's garden. It is a treasure at hand. You do not have to go anywhere in search of it. You may have all you want of this treasure; the price—merely your humble recognition of its existence, your worthiness to receive it, acceptance of its wealth, and joyous gratitude sincerely shown to the Giver. Yes, it is a gift to you.

What is this treasure? It is the understanding of the real man. Mary Baker Eddy, in defining man on page 475 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," writes, "He is the compound idea of God, including all right ideas." Man is the manifestation of God, who is always revealing Himself. Our recognition that the qualities of God are reflected in man, our acceptance of these qualities, and our joy in the possession of God's great gift constitute our very being in Truth, and endow us with all the good the universe has to offer, making us heirs to all the riches of God.
