In September, 1943, while crossing...

In September, 1943, while crossing the street in a near-by city, I was struck by a bicycle upon which a girl was riding at a good speed. I was thrown forward on the pavement, breaking my left wrist in two places and striking me above the eye, discoloring my face badly and taking some flesh from my ankle. I was X-rayed by a surgeon, who made this statement: "Your wrist is broken and you will have to be operated upon and wear a cast. You will not be able to work for a long time."

I called for a Christian Science practitioner and asked her for absent treatment. Before she began work for me I could not lift the lightest object or bend my left wrist. After one week the wrist movement returned and I soon found myself lifting things. From the very first treatment I could keep right on doing all of my work and did all my canning. I kept no bandage on, and in twenty-eigth days' time I dismissed the practitioner.

During this time, while using the washing machine, I placed my left hand in the wringer. It had gone over the four fingers on my hand and over every knuckle before the release flew open and freed my fingers. Because of the work in Christian Science which was being done at that time, no trouble of any kind resulted.
