A Priceless Bond

One time, after attempting to apply Christian Science to a problem which seemed difficult to solve, I came to the point where I did not see what more to do. Fear of evil seemed to occupy my thought much more than trust in good. As I reached out for some ray of light the "still small voice" of Truth said, "What you need is more trust in good than fear of evil." That was surely true.

Then the question came: But how can I get more trust in good when I seem so fearful of evil? Simply desiring trust in good will not produce it. Where can trust in good be found? I opened "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy to the metaphysical interpretation of "Abraham" on page 579, which says in part, "This patriarch illustrated the purpose of Love to create trust in good, and showed the life-preserving power of spiritual understanding." What I needed was "trust in good," and here I learned it was "the purpose of Love" to create it.

Love's purpose, I saw, is always God's purpose, and God's purpose is already accomplished. Then "the purpose of Love to create trust in good" was already accomplished. But where? Where had God, Love, created trust in good? Would it not be in His own manifestation? Where else could it be? Then trust in good was already created, and it was created in man, in my only true consciousness, so I reasoned. Trust in good, I began to see, was not something outside myself, which I had to reach out for, or go and get and put into myself. It was my God-given state of mind, as natural to me as life itself.
