When I was still a child I became...
When I was still a child I became dissatisfied with my religious teaching, and had many conversations with our minister. I frankly told him I did not believe what we were taught about God. Asked what I believed God to be, I said I did not know, but I was sure there existed some power that governed the universe and kept the stars in their proper places. Eventually I withdrew from the church, finding no further comfort therein; however, I never gave up my search to find God.
Some years later, a friend of my mother's, seeing her great need— for she was suffering from a mental disturbance—tried to interest her in the teachings of Christian Science. Although she was not then ready to accept this healing truth, I drank in the whole conversation in another room, and when they finished I asked where I might obtain a copy of the Christian Science textbook, for I knew, by the explanations I had just heard, that it contained the truth I was searching for. A few hours later I was in possession of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and commenced at once to read the chapter on Prayer. Although I read for hours I did not get farther than the first chapter, because it contained so much.
My husband and my mother soon became students of Christian Science, and in the twenty-six years that have followed, innumerable blessings have been received by our small family. Our daughter has had the privilege of almost unbroken attendance in the Christian Science Sunday School for seventeen years.
