I shall never cease to be grateful...
I shall never cease to be grateful for the privilege of having been brought up in a Christian Science home. My mother became interested in this religion before she was married, and my sister and I have never known anything else. We have been beautifully and wonderfully protected all our lives.
I more or less took Christian Science for granted until recently. Although I had attended Sunday school until I was twenty, and have always attended services regularly, I had only the letter, not the spirit, of Christian Science. I neither read nor studied, and depended on my mother to solve my problems, which were very few. Most of my time was given to seeking material pleasures, which I thought brought me happiness. Through a beautiful healing I learned my lesson, and I hope that my experience will encourage someone else.
All during the summer of 1942 I had what I thought were slight attacks of indigestion, but I paid little or no attention to them. One day in the fall, however, I was attacked by severe pain and nausea. My mother, who is a practitioner, came and took me to her home. I stayed there for over two months, and suffered greatly day and night with what would be called an ulcerated stomach. I was unable to eat any solid food. Several practitioners worked for me at different times, and I shall never forget how patient and loving they all were, but I did not seem to get any better. I read and read, but this did not seem to help either. The time had come for me to apply Science myself, and one day I suddenly realized this. Instead of just reading words, I began to study what I read, to ponder the truth. I began to see that material pleasures do not bring us happiness, and decided then and there to give more time to the Cause of Christian Science. I suddenly began to improve, and in a short while was entirely healed. All pain was gone and I was able to eat anything I liked, and still am. This experience was a wonderful blessing to me and I shall always be grateful for it.
