The Crossing

Though you pass through deepest waters,
Just remember men of old—
How His presence moved before them
Till they came safe to the fold.

When they crossed the river Jordan,
Bearing high the ark of God,
How the swollen currents parted
And on land they firmly trod!

When they fled from bold Egyptians,
Led by holy fire at night,
Loosened waves, at dawn returning,
Swept their enemy from sight.

Thus the sea preserved their pathway
Until everyone had crossed,
Stronger for the great adventure—
Only fear and doubting lost.

Though you pass through deepest waters.
Surely He will be with you,
Loving, comforting, protecting,
Till your journeyings are through.
