Man's True Business

There are many anxious thoughts in our nation these days concerning the future of the "little business man." A great deal is heard of his being forced out of business because of lack of help and rationing of one sort or another. But right here Christian Science intervenes and makes us realize that there are no so-called little men in God's universe, because God is infinite, and man, as His image and likeness, is by reflection upright, resourceful, discerning, sagacious, trustworthy, just, sincere, loyal, gracious, kind, law-abiding, and successfully active. These qualities of Mind are surely not "little" qualities, but are effective and unlimited, and have no beginning or end in Mind. In reality, then, there could not be a "little business man," now or ever!

We know that there is only one business—the business of reflecting God; that is, "the Father's business." When we are reflecting God and His glorious spiritual qualities, we are being about our Father's business, and this very fact rescues us from the false belief that we can be forced out of our rightful place because mortal thought says we are in a little business, instead of some great enterprise. God's love is impartial and His law of progress and fulfillment applies equally to all those who serve Him.

The Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, writes in the Preface to the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. vii), "The time for thinkers has come." If we are to be classed with thinkers, it is our duty and our privilege to begin right now to think clear, constructive, healthful thoughts about man and the universe—to think in a comprehensive manner about man as an idea in divine Mind, not mortal and material, but mental and spiritual.
