Christian Science was presented...
Christian Science was presented to me in my home in the South, where it was compulsory for the children to submit to physical tests in the schools both at the beginning and at the close of the school term. At the close of this particular term my small daughter returned from school with the report that her eyes were in a very bad condition. I appealed to a personal friend, an optometrist, who confirmed the opinion of the school doctors, stating that she would have to wear glasses continuously. That week she got the glasses. The following Sunday she was invited to attend the Christian Science Sunday School with two of her friends. Knowing nothing of Christian Science at that time, I was very much surprised to hear her say, "Mother, I don't want to wear glasses to a Christian Science Sunday School." I told her to take them off for that day, which she did. That was the last time she ever had them on, for she continued in the Sunday school until reaching the age limit. When she returned to school the following term her eyes were again tested, and she was told they were perfectly normal.
A few weeks after first attending Sunday school, she was preparing for bed one evening when she accidently dropped an electric light bulb on a table that was almost on a level with her eyes. The bulb exploded, and when she came into my room to say goodnight to me I noticed that one eye was quite red. She went to bed, and in a few moments she called to me, saying, "Mother, if matter is nothing, then I have nothing in my eye." She immediately went to sleep, and in the morning her eye was entirely normal. Then she told me that there had been glass in it the night before. It is very gratifying to see how readily the young grasp the truth.
It would take a great deal of space to enumerate the many, many blessings that I have enjoyed as a result of my study of Christian Science. I am most grateful for the privilege of teaching in the Sunday school and for the many blessings it brings.
