That Christian Science heals,...
That Christian Science heals, there is no question. While suffering from a severe bilious attack, I was healed as I lay listening to someone reading the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. Divine, healing law is operative, as freely available and useful today as is arithmetic. Not having had the book long, I did not know that its pages were radiant with healing power, yet when I heard the statement (p. 306), "But man cannot be separated for an instant from God, if man reflects God," I was healed in that instant. Pain, nausea, sickness were gone, replaced by a fresh sense of health and well-being such as I had never known. Jesus' statement, "I and my Father are one," had suddenly taken on meaning, authority. Only God, revealed in these pages, could accomplish such immediate and permanent healing, for this occurred over fourteen years ago, and there has been no return of the malady.
So surprising to me at that time was this unprecedented experience that I wanted to know what had taken place. The intervening years have shown clearly that it was the divine law of Love operating, and an unceasing flow of similar evidence has proved beyond all doubt that Christian Science is the certain basis for everyday living. Answers to Christianly scientific prayer come through individual acceptance of eternal law, in accord with the Master's reference to it, "I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil."
A new and better business, harmonious home adjustments, a wider view socially, all these—in fact all phases of personal experience—are immeasurably brightening through the continuous effort to study and absorb the truth as explained in Science and Health and Mrs. Eddy's other writings. In "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" (p. 253) she writes: "We understand best that which begins in ourselves and by education brightens into birth. Dare to be faithful to God and man."
