Christian Science Committee on Publication for State of Tasmania, Australia, Reports

The press continues to be very friendly. No letters or articles antagonistic to Christian Science have appeared in any daily newspaper in Tasmania during the year.

Owing to restrictions placed on the use of newsprint on account of war conditions, it has been increasingly difficult to arrange for the publishing of Lesson-Sermon excerpts. One daily newspaper continues to publish them regularly, but for the time being others are unable to do so. However, while regretting their inability, they have promised, and we have already received consideration in connection with space for our lecture and other reports of church activities.

Misrepresentations of Christian Science and our Leader have not altogether ceased, but the opposition is not so open, hence not so easy to meet. Usually it appears in pamphlet or tract form. One misrepresentation in pamphlet form, lately brought to the attention of your Committee, carried a foreword by the leader of a conformist church, but generally this kind of opposition is put forth by nonconformist groups, and circulated among members of such groups. Whenever possible, Committees on Publication endeavor to get into touch by personal visit or by letter with originators of such pamphlets or tracts.
