Because I have studied Christian Science for over a third of a century, my deep gratitude for its practical help and the many blessings it has brought prompts me to record the changes for the better that have taken place in my life and in my thinking during that time.

Regarding health: when first taking up this study I was living the life of an invalid, suffering from serious internal disorders, which had followed the birth of my second child. I was always in pain, very weak, and able to walk only a short distance at a time. Many doctors were consulted, different kinds of treatment were tried, one surgical operation was performed, and an astonishing amount of medicine was taken. But all this accomplished nothing. I finally consulted a London specialist, who stated that nothing more could be done for me. In a very dark hour, on the advice of a friend, I turned to Christian Science as an experiment and a last hope, and asked for treatment.

The healing took time, but was progressive. Many lessons had to be learned, much mistaken thinking had to be corrected, and much fear had to be overcome. Sometimes periods of discouragement were experienced, and I was tempted to believe that my case was hopeless; but in due course, through perseverance and the faithful work of a Christian Science practitioner, health, harmony, and order were restored. I was healed and able to lead a normal life again.
