Church Dedications

Note: Christian Science churches are dedicated only when free from debt.

Wilmar, California (First Church).—Christian Science Society, Wilmar, was recognized by The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston. Massachusetts, on March 11, 1927, and in July, 1930, the present church site was purchased and preparation made for the building of a church. The cornerstone was laid on September 30, and the opening services were held on November 15, 1930.

A Reading Room was maintained in the church edifice, which was open two days a week until August, 1942, when a new Reading Room was opened at 2055 South Del Mar Avenue.

On November 12, 1942, The Christian Science Board of Directors notified the society that its application for status as a church had been approved, and the name became First Church of Christ, Scientist, Wilmar. In the same month the church building was cleared of all indebtedness.
