Easter

Rev. Dr. L. W. Fifie Brooklyn Eagle

The central message of Easter is that there is a kind of life that cannot be destroyed. There is a kind of life that cannot be conquered by hatred, intolerance, self-ishness—not even by death itself. All of the destructive qualities of life were incarnate in the group opposed to Jesus of Nazareth. ... They were convinced that his death would end the menace of his message to their entrenched selfishness and greed. The stone at the opening of the tomb was for them a period closing the span and also the influence of his life.

How wrong they were! Their wrongness is the essential message of Easter Day. The resurrection of Christ [Jesus] is among the best attested facts of history. It testifies constantly to the eternal truth that hope is greater than fear, life is stronger than death, love is more vital than hate.
