Christian Science Committee on Publication for Tennessee Reports

Only two newspaper articles during the past year seemed to justify a reply, and both corrections were published. There was a fair amount of publicity in connection with the Annual Meeting of The Mother Church, and a number of papers printed news items concerning War Relief work. Editors are usually kindly disposed, and it should not be difficult to obtain a sympathetic hearing when they are approached frankly and fearlessly. News about our activities is good news, and when this is realized, good results are certain. One of the corrections mentioned evoked the following written comment. A very prominent pastor of a leading Memphis church clipped the reply with this note appended: "According to my lights you have written the truth in the attached lines, and I thank you." Another man in Mississippi wrote: "I read your article on 'Sin and Pain,' and I believe you are right. Please send me a copy of 'Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures' by Mary Baker Eddy."

The newspapers continue to quote liberally from The Christian Science Monitor and to reprint its cartoons. This indicates the unique position of our daily newspaper in the journalistic world. A considerable number of papers subscribe for the Monitor under the plan whereby it is sent to editors in return for an equivalent of the subscription price in advertising. Your Committee will be glad to learn of editors who might be interested in this liberal proposition. Here are a few editors' comments in this connection:

"I shall be exceedingly glad to have you renew the Monitor on the same basis as heretofore. It would be difficult for me to get along without it."
