I feel that the time has now arrived...

I feel that the time has now arrived for me to send in this testimony. My first testimony appeared in The Christian Science Journal of December, 1931. Since then I have, through the study of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, traveled a long way on the pilgrimage from sense to Soul. There have been many healings through the application of the teachings of this wonderful textbook, "more than can be numbered," but one of these was a profitable experience which stands out prominently in my memory for the lessons it taught me, namely, the value of obedience, and the simplicity of spiritual healing when we put all our trust in the great Physician, with whom all things are possible.

For approximately seventeen years I had been suffering from a physical disorder which was both painful and discomforting; it took the form of a constantly falling internal organ. I was free from this trouble only when inactively seated in a chair or when in bed for the night. One morning about four years ago, as I was dressing with no thought of any bodily ailment, suddenly the thought came, "It is true that you have endeavored to be faithful to the teachings of Christian Science, and have sought no other remedy, but suppose you stop using any material support." I recognized immediately that this was no other than the "still small voice." I thought it over and saw clearly that the rebuke was merited, that trust in material support through all those years had not brought with it the desired healing, and that the continuance of such a useless habit would be absurd. Then and there I decided that, cost what it might, I must mend my ways, and place radical reliance on God, the only physician.

As was my custom, I went out shopping. I had not gone very far when an attack came, and with more violence than ever before; it seemed as if error were screaming its loudest. I stood still on the pavement and took my stand, saying with courage and authority, "I don't care if you fall to the ground, I shall not use material support." There were several more occasions that very day for me to assert my authority. I also realized the truths of the statement in Science and Health that "there is no power apart from God" (p. 228), that "there is but one primal cause. Therefore there can be no effect from any other cause, and there can be no reality in aught which does not proceed from this great and only cause" (p. 207), and I knew that both cause and effect are good. Through obedience that day I had touched the hem of the healing Christ. Soon after, I could "run and not be weary; ... walk, and not faint." Three months later I was able to stand up and give the testimony of my healing in our local Christian Science church with overflowing joy and gratitude.
