Introduction to Christian Science through the Reading Room

In order to make authorized Christian Science literature easily accessible to those desiring such information, Mary Baker Eddy has provided in the Manual of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, that each church of the Christian Science denomination shall have a Reading Room (Art. XXI, Sect. 1).

The establishment and maintenance of the Reading Rooms have been left to the individual branch churches. Many of the Reading Rooms are located on busy thoroughfares, since they are established not for the church members alone but for all who may be interested in visiting them. The location of these Reading Rooms, and the hours when they are open to the public, are listed in The Christian Science Journal. The librarians in attendance at the branch church Reading Rooms are appointed by their respective church boards in accordance with the qualifications required for the Reading Rooms of The Mother Church (Manual, Art. XXI, Sect. 2).

In these harmonious rooms, investigators of Christian Science may quietly study the weekly Lesson-Sermon, which consists of citations from the Bible and the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, as outlined in the Christian Science Quarterly.
