I am indeed grateful that from...
I am indeed grateful that from a very early age I was sent by my mother to a Christian Science Sunday School. The truths of Christian Science which I learned there will always remain with me, and I must express heartfelt gratitude for those consecrated teachers who were always so loving, understanding, and ready to help.
Amongst the healings I have received in Christian Science are those of colds, sprained ankles, and mumps. As a small child, whenever I felt ill I asked my mother to read aloud to me from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and my healing always followed; in many cases it was instantaneous. The remembrance of one healing in particular has always been a source of great help to me. Some years ago I had a bad cold, and when my understanding of Christian Science did not suffice to meet this, I rang up a friend and asked her to help me. The condition still persisted, so after a few days I rang her up again and asked for further help. She then told me to know that I existed at the heart of divinity, and therefore radiated love. After our conversation I pondered this statement, and then I awoke to see that I really had not been very loving in my family relationships, but most irritable and impatient. I decided that these truths must be lived up to if they were to be proved. That afternoon I changed my thinking and became more loving, tolerant, patient, and helpful, and by the evening I knew that I was healed.
I am grateful for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church, and for the opportunities which this membership affords. In these days when we hear so much about enlistment, I love to remember that our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, writes on page 450 of Science and Health, "The Christian Scientist has enlisted to lessen evil, disease, and death; and he will overcome them by understanding their nothingness and the allness of God, or good."
