My experience as a student of...
My experience as a student of Christian Science began in 1934. In 1932, hereditary belief and self-indulgence with its false values brought a breakdown in health. I lost a position of some years' standing in the Far East, and underwent medical treatment in Switzerland for pulmonary tuberculosis of both lungs. I also suffered from a chronic condition of the throat, for which I underwent three operations in all, and was told after the last one that the throat was a mass of scar tissue and would never be satisfactory. I also suffered from rheumatism and fear of climate.
When I asked for Christian Science treatment I had lost every penny in business, had been told by a doctor, to whom I went for examination, that the tuberculosis was again active. I was unemployed, had quarreled violently with my father, and had left home and been forbidden to return.
During the practitioner's work for purification, I had two quick healings. Tobacco suddenly tasted unpleasant and a growth not mentioned to the practitioner disappeared. After that demonstration I accepted the truth that matter is a condition of belief objectified.
