Excerpts from Letters Concerning Christian Science Wartime Activities

[From a young officer, a resident of the Middle East, after attending his first Christian Science Sunday service]

Last Sunday I attended to the meeting and frankly speaking it was something totally new to me. Captain told me that he will be writing to Cairo for getting me a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. Really this book left me a great impression, and I am very anxious of getting one whatever may be the cost. Always in my life the question of religion was something empty, something of routine. In our church I used to go, but only to hear the same ancient words and the same psalms written hundreds of years ago. No explanation—nothing of the sort. Then how do you want me to think of all these treasures which are in the Scriptures? It's something unbelievable. The "Key to the Scriptures" is a revelation to me, and for this you will excuse me if I become a burden on you for getting this book and put you in this small trouble.
