Man's Birthright of Dominion

One of the things we learn about man, whom God made in His own image and likeness, as set forth in the first chapter of Genesis, is that he was given dominion.

What was this dominion, and over what was it given? The man of God's creating exercises spiritual dominion. He is the evidence of divine intelligence, substance, and law. The man of God's creating, dwelling in the realm of Mind, where there is no conflict, no limitation, no opposition, is eternally and boundlessly free to be himself, as Mind's idea. And how does this consciousness of dominion express itself in human terms "in earth, as ... in heaven"?

On page 583 of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy thus defines the Christ: "The divine manifestation of God, which comes to the flesh to destroy incarnate error." Dominion spiritually understood, humanly exemplified is what Jesus demonstrated. He identified himself with the Christ, with spiritual sonship, which is in heaven. This he knew to be his divine heritage made manifest, and he expressed it in his own nature, in the supremacy of his understanding and the greatness of his love. He bore witness to it also on the earth, in the overcoming of every form of evil which presented itself to him, in subduing material conditions and demonstrating the instant and constant operation of the law of God.
