Sunday School Notes and Comments

The Christian Science Sunday School has an opportunity and a responsibility that extends beyond the immediate needs of its own pupils to the welfare of the whole community. Mrs. Eddy reminds us of this when she writes (Pulpit and Press, p. 9). "Ah children, you are the bulwarks of freedom, the cement of society, the hope of our race!"

If our children are to recognize their opportunities to serve the race, in fulfillment of our Leader's words, they must find in our Sunday school the inspiration to work for human welfare and further its interests by supporting The Mother Church and its activities.

The humanity of Jesus is unfolded in his Sermon on the Mount, parts of which constitute two of the three "first lessons" taught in the Sunday school (see Church Manual, Art. XX, Sect. 3). Jesus was well versed in Moses' teachings. It can be said that he made the Ten Commandments and the Beatitudes, together with the Lord's Prayer, the basis of Christian practice.
