Glendale, California (First Church).—First Church of Christ, Scientist, Glendale, dedicated its building on Sunday, January 18, 1942, with three services held in the morning, afternoon, and evening. Thirty years ago eighteen residents of Glendale withdrew their memberships from Third Church of Christ, Scientist, Los Angeles, to establish a church in Glendale, and on April 17, 1912, First Church of Christ, Scientist, Glendale, was duly incorporated under the laws of California.

The first meetings were held in Masonic Hall, located in a building on Brand. In 1914, when these quarters were outgrown, a lease was obtained on the auditorium of the new Masonic Temple.

Early in the spring of 1916 it became necessary to have larger quarters both for the church meetings and the Sunday school. A building at California and Maryland, on lots owned by the church, was started. Just fifty-two working days from the time the contracts were let, the first services were held in the new church structure. Within six months, the church having cleared the indebtedness, three dedicatory services were held on December 31, 1916.
