Our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, writes on page 425 of Science and Health, "Consciousness constructs a better body when faith in matter has been conquered." I am grateful to have proved the truth of this statement from our textbook through the consecrated work of Christian Science practitioners and my own efforts in healing what to mortal mind and material methods would have been a hopeless case.

Over five years ago, an attack of acute indigestion left me so weakened that I could hardly straighten myself. A nervous breakdown followed, then what seemed to be an ulcerous stomach, chronic gastritis, violent headaches, and the emaciation of the nerves of my entire body, especially of my arms, which could not be used without excruciating pain. Miseries of all kinds almost overwhelmed me, and for a time there seemed to be little or no improvement.

Having been a student of Christian Science for several years, I knew that "he, who would reach the source and find the divine remedy for every ill, must not try to climb the hill of Science by some other road" (ibid., p. 326), so I persisted in my study. To say that I did not have to deal with discouragement at times would not be truthful, and it would be of no benefit to one laboring under a similar problem. Many times this foe had to be met and overcome, until it was finally destroyed.
