I have long felt the desire to...
I have long felt the desire to write my testimony of the healing efficacy of Christian Science. My first healing was of a skin eruption which covered half of my face and neck. I tried all the remedies anyone told me about. A doctor prescribed every remedy he knew of, but the condition did not improve, and at last he recommended that I try Christian Science.
I had believed in the power of prayer since a child, but knew nothing about the teachings of this Science. About this time I met a Christian Scientist, and after his explanation of Science I made an appointment with a practitioner and told her my problem. When I left her home all thought of the condition was erased from my mind. About three days later, while washing my face, I recalled having had the skin condition, but upon examination could find no trace of it.
I regret to say that I did not take up the study of Science at that time, though I gladly accepted the healing. About ten years later I fell on an icy sidewalk and broke my ankle. When I was brought home I immediately asked my mother to telephone to a Christian Science practitioner. Help was lovingly given, and although the ankle was set by a doctor I experienced no pain at any time. As soon as I was able to walk I started attending a Christian Science church and studying the Bible and "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy.
Words fail me in which to express my deep gratitude for all the blessings I have received through the study and application of Christian Science. I have been healed of blood poisoning, ptomaine poisoning, a bilious condition, hemorrhoids, constipation of many years' standing, and weak kidneys. I have also experienced great protection while driving a car. Whenever rightly applied, Christian Science has met my every need.
As our beloved Leader says in Science and Health (p. 1), "Desire is prayer; and no loss can occur from trusting God with our desires, that they may be moulded and exalted before they take form in words and in deeds." I am grateful for the privilege of membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church, and of serving in some of the activities of the branch church; I am also very grateful for class instruction.
I cannot close without expressing gratitude to the one who led me to Science, to all the practitioners who are ready and willing to help us over the rough places, to Jesus, the Way-shower, and to our beloved Leader, whose unselfish life has given to all mankind a panacea for all their problems. I also wish to express my gratitude for all the Christian Science periodicals to which we are privileged to subscribe. I sincerely hope that I may live my life so as to be worthy of being called a Christian Scientist and thereby prove my gratitude.—(Mrs.) Grace Alma Bookey, Chicago, Illinois.
