Recently there appeared in your syndicated column "Ask the Transcript," the question regarding Mary Baker Eddy, "Did she ever take medicine?" In the answer it is stated that, in addition to experiencing serious illnesses, she was stricken with paralysis.

While a young woman, Mrs. Eddy did experience illnesses, but never was she stricken with paralysis. It is true that she sought relief through Phineas P. Quimby, a magnetic healer of Portland, Maine, and that while under his care she received temporary relief; but she was not permanently healed. This was some years before her discovery of Christian Science.

She was instantaneously healed of an injury upon reading in the Bible one of the healings performed by the Master, and this led to her discovery of Christian Science.
