"And they followed him"

In the twentieth chapter of Matthew, it is related that two blind men received their sight through the ministrations of Christ Jesus. This was nothing unusual in the daily life of the Son of man. His presence had brought healing to multitudes in every city and town where he sojourned. The unusual part of the episode is contained at the end of the thirty-fourth verse, which reads, "So Jesus had compassion on them, and touched their eyes: and immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed him."

How many of those receiving the precious gift of health from the Master are recorded as following him? How many today, through the utilization of the Christ-principle, as revealed in Christian Science, follow the Christ, Truth, in humility and gratitude? It is one thing to be healed of a distressing condition by the consecrated work of a Christian Science practitioner, and quite another to continue one's progress through study and through the denial of material selfhood until the healing power is fully understood and spiritual being is revealed.

Many are healed who, while grateful for release from physical discomfort, do not clearly understand that the door has been opened for them to enter into a new country, the progressive demonstration of divine Science. The onward steps require consecration to Truth as revealed and lived by Christ Jesus, the study of our textbooks, and spiritualization of thought as taught in the inspired writings of our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy. Sometimes the path seems hard and beset with difficulties, but each overcoming of error brings a clearer understanding of the goal to be achieved. Each success in applying the truth illumines the darkness of material belief, making the way less difficult.
