Many years ago I was asked to...
Many years ago I was asked to accompany a relative to a lecture on Christian Science. This was the first I had heard of this Science. It appealed to me because of the fact that it was a religion which healed disease as well as sin.
At the time, I was suffering from a chronic illness which several physicians had diagnosed as catarrh of the stomach. I had tried several specialists, change of climate, dieting, and a mineral spring health resort, but had not received any benefit. Several days after attending the lecture I purchased a Bible, the first Bible I had ever owned, and a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I had help from Christian Science practitioners, and my healing, though very slow, was finally complete. I can truthfully say that in my case no righteous effort was lost, and I proved the promise which Mrs. Eddy gives us in Science and Health (p. 22): "When the smoke of battle clears away, you will discern the good you have done, and receive according to your deserving."
My healings, some of which were brought about with the loving help of practitioners, have been many. One was a case of rheumatism in my feet, which became so acute that I was unable to walk. I asked for help from a Christian Science practitioner and was completely healed, and I have never had the slightest return of the trouble. These lines from Science and Health have been a great help in time of need (p. 415): "Immortal Mind is the only cause; therefore disease is neither a cause nor an effect." If this positive truth is used as a basis of scientific reasoning, error can be destroyed. I give thanks for some understanding of Truth. I am grateful for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church, for class instruction, and for all the activities of the Christian Science movement.—Harvey Clopton, Atlanta, Georgia.
